Employment data collection activities (Sakernas) was first carried out by CBS in 1976. The concepts and definitions used in the collection of employment data by Statistics not been changed since 1976, except for the concept of open unemployment and employment status, started in 2001 was expanded.

Since the year 2011, Sakernas started back on a quarterly basis ie Februai month (quarter), in May (second quarter), August (third quarter), and November (the fourth quarter). For Sakernas activity in August, in addition to the quarterly sample also contained an additional sample, intended to obtain an annual rate as estimated data presentation to the district / city.

With the urgency of good employment data demands continuity, recency and increased accuracy of data generated, the data collection period Sakernas 2011 - 2014 conducted quarterly ie: February, May June July August and November the presentation to the provincial level.

Starting in 2015, held biannually SAKERNAS namely in February (first semester) and August (second semester) to obtain estimates of the Provincial level. In August, in addition to the sample Sakernas Semester II are additional samples to obtain estimates of the presentation of data to the district / city level.

Data collected on the general state of each member of the household that includes the name, relationship to head of household, gender and age. Especially for household members aged 10 and above will be asked to know information about marital status, education, employment, unemployment and work experience.
